TRIP SUMMARY

This is the short version of the Inca Trail, ideal for those who have little time but wish to experience this unique hike and enjoy beautiful landscapes, orchids and diverse birds. The hike covers 11 kilometers on the first day and offers the opportunity to learn about the Inca culture and its extension throughout South America. The Inca Trail is among the Andean mountains, with constructions at the top overlooking the Andean valley and part of the Peruvian jungle. During the hike, we will visit archaeological sites such as Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna, along the Urubamba River, and IntiPunku, with panoramic views of Machu Picchu, in addition to observing flora, fauna and birds.

Inca Trail Tour ITINERARY 2 Days

Day 1: Cusco - Km 104 - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up at your hotel between 04:00 am to 04:30 am, to head to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where we will take the train on a journey of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. During the journey, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with its agricultural terraces and majestic snow-capped mountains. From Ollantaytambo, we will board the train that will take us to Km. 104, in the middle of the cloud forest where our hike will begin at 2,200 meters above sea level. We will start by crossing the bridge over the Urubamba River, known as Willkamayu in Quechua, or “Sacred River”, significant for the Incas. At the checkpoint, you will need to show your passport or foreigner’s registration certificate and national identity card. The hike will continue to the Choquesuysuy Chachabamba archaeological center, hidden in the semi-tropical forest, followed by an ascent with views of the Sacred Valley, waterfalls and orchids. After 4 hours of hiking, we will reach Wiñaywayna at 2,650 meters above sea level, known for its circular terraces and the Temple of the Rainbow. After a one-hour visit, we will enjoy an energizing lunch before continuing to IntiPunku, the “Gateway to the Sun”, at 2,720 meters above sea level. From here, you will have a breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valley. We will descend for 30 minutes to Machu Picchu at 2,490 meters above sea level, where we will take a 25-minute bus ride to Aguas Calientes, the town of Machu Picchu. We will spend the night in a hostel, with the option to relax in the nearby hot springs or explore the local bars and restaurants.

Day 2: Machu Picchu - Cusco

This day we will start early with breakfast before boarding the first bus at 05:30 am. The 30-minute ride will take us to the Machu Picchu Citadel, where we will arrive at 06:00 a.m. to enjoy the breathtaking sunrise. We will take a guided tour of 2 hours and 30 minutes to explore the most outstanding sites of Machu Picchu, such as the Royal Mausoleum, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Main Temple, the Sacred Plaza and the Intihuatana, used by the Inca sages to tie the sun at the winter solstice.

Afterwards, we will descend to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco, with estimated arrival time around 20:30 p.m.
