A day of hot springs between the Calca Mountains

Sometimes the best plan in Cusco does not need long walks or a program loaded with stops. Just leave early, cross the Sacred Valley and reach some hot pools surrounded by the Lares mountains.

This tour is designed for travelers who want to slow down after several days of walking, relieve body fatigue or spend a different day outside the city. The tour leads from Cusco to the district of Lares, where six pools receive hot spring water with different temperatures.

The complex is approximately 3,250 m / 10,663 feet. Its waters have a yellowish hue related to its mineral composition and reach temperatures of approximately 35 °C to 48 °C.

With Peceros Agency Travel, you will travel by tourist transport, you will have assistance during the tour and you will have time to use the pools without worrying about organizing transport connections on your own.

It is a quiet day, but it also involves several hours of road. Wearing comfortable clothes, swimsuit and a dry molting will make the day much more enjoyable.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Cusco – Calca – Lares Thermal Baths – Cusco

Highlight of the day: Free time in six thermal pools surrounded by the slopes of the Lares Valley.

The pick up will be from your hotel between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., provided that the accommodation is located within our operating area of Cusco.

After gathering the group, we will begin the journey to the Sacred Valley. During the first part of the journey we will pass through roads surrounded by agricultural fields, rural towns and mountains.

The transfer to Calca will take about an hour and forty minutes, depending on traffic. There we will make a short stop to use the restrooms or buy water, snacks and some personal items.

From Calca we will continue by road to the district of Lares. This stretch ascends and crosses mountain areas with frequent curves. Some people may feel dizzy during the tour, so we recommend eating breakfast lightly and communicating any discomfort to the guide.

The approximate duration between Calca and Lares will be one and a half hours, although it can vary due to rain, maintenance or road condition.

Upon arrival at the village we will continue for a few minutes to the thermal complex.

The Thermal Baths of Lares are approximately 3,250 m / 10,663 feet and have six pools with different sizes and temperatures. The tourist inventory of Mincetur registers waters between 35 °C and 48 °C, distributed by gutters.

Before entering, the guide will explain the meeting point and departure time. You will have time to change and use the pools.

We recommend starting with a moderate temperature pool. Getting in directly into the hotter water can cause dizziness, weakness, or a sudden reduction in blood pressure.

Water has a yellowish hue related to its mineral content. This is part of the characteristics of the source and does not mean that the water is dirty. Its recorded composition includes sodium, chlorides, sulfates, iron and other minerals.

After bathing, you should dry well and put on clean, warm clothes. The outside air may feel cold, especially during cloudy days.

We will go to the village of Lares for lunch. The menu will be confirmed according to the available restaurant and may include an entrance, main course and hot drink.

In the afternoon we will begin the return to Calca and then to Cusco. Arrival is scheduled around 5:00 p.m., but may vary due to traffic and road conditions.

Technical Details

  • Transportation: Tourist vehicle, when applicable to the confirmed itinerary and operating conditions.
  • Final transfer to the pools: Approximately 10 to 20 minutes.
