Tandem flight over mountains, agricultural fields and streams of the Sacred Valley

The most intense moment happens before taking off. In front of you appears an open slope, the wind moves the sail and the pilot asks you to move forward decisively. After a few steps, the terrain is behind you and you start flying over one of the widest landscapes of Cusco.

This paragliding tour is done in tandem mode. You will travel attached to a specialized pilot, who controls takeoff, direction and landing. You do not need prior knowledge, but you do have to run a few meters, follow instructions and communicate any medical conditions before participating.

The flight area is located near Racchi, in the surroundings of Chinchero and the Sacred Valley. From the air you can observe agricultural plots, gorges, mountains and, when the sky is clear, sectors of the valley and snowy of the Urubamba mountain range.

The duration of the flight depends entirely on the wind and thermal currents. It can be maintained between about 12 and 25 minutes, although the pilot can reduce it or cancel the exit if the conditions are not safe.

With Peceros Agency Travel, you will have transportation, pilot, technical equipment, assistance and return to Cusco within a single reservation.

Highlights

  • Leave Cusco in one of the scheduled shifts during the morning or afternoon.
  • Travel approximately 50 minutes to the flight zone located near Racchi and Chinchero.
  • Fly in front of agricultural fields, ravines, mountains and rural towns around Chinchero.
  • Contemplate part of the Sacred Valley from a perspective that is not obtained from roads or land-based viewpoints.
  • The flight is made over the environment of the Sacred Valley, but the Sacred Valley as a whole is not independently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In Cusco, the registered sites include the City of Cusco and the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, among other recognized goods in Peru.
  • For that reason, it should not be claimed that the paragliding point or the entire Sacred Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Daily Schedule

Itinerary

DAY 1

Pick up in Cusco and meet the group

Highlights: pre-coordination before heading out to the flight zone.

For the first turn, the meeting is scheduled at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the Plaza San Francisco of Cusco.

The original information also mentions pick up from the hotel. Therefore, the confirmation must clearly indicate one of the following options:

  • Pick up from the hotel inside the historic center.
  • Meeting in San Francisco Square.
  • Central point defined by operations.

The referential shifts are:

7:30 a.m.

10:00 a.m.

2:00 p.m.

These times correspond to the start of the service and do not guarantee an exact take-off time.

Before boarding the vehicle, the coordinator will check:

  • Full name.
  • Approximate weight.
  • Medical conditions.
  • Contact number.

The weight must be declared correctly. Pilots need to know it to assign the equipment and check if the passenger is within the operating limits.

About the height of flight

The original phrase states that the flight is made “at more than 1,000 meters high.” This description can lead to confusion.

The takeoff point is approximately between 3,600 and 3,880 meters above sea level, depending on the area used. A commercial reference of Cerro Sacro indicates an altitude close to 3,880 meters and a vertical slope of approximately 600 meters.

The height above the ground changes during the flight. It should not be guaranteed that the passenger will remain 1,000 meters above the ground.

Sensations during the flight

The air can feel cold even on a sunny day.

They may also present:

  • Soft movements.
  • Ascents by thermal currents.
  • Progressive declines.
  • Changes in speed.
  • Sense of vacuum.

Anyone who prefers a quiet flight should report it before takeoff.

The most marked maneuvers can only be performed when:

  • The passenger asks for them.
  • The pilot authorizes them.
  • The conditions are adequate.
  • There is no medical restriction.
  • A margin of safety is maintained.

Technical Details

  • Departure point: Plaza San Francisco or hotel confirmed.
  • Transportation: tourist vehicle.
  • Breakfast: not included.
  • Travel time: approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Vehicle land: paved road and rural access.
  • Altitude: superior to the city of Cusco in some sectors.
