Drive along Andean roads between Moray, Maras and the Sacred Valley Mountains

The engine is started in Cruzpata and, a few minutes later, the main roads are behind. In front of you are fields, reddish dirt roads and mountains that surround the Maras plateau.

This tour combines quad bike driving with two very different places. First you will reach Moray, an archaeological site formed by large circular platforms built within depressions of the land. Then you will pass through the village of Maras and continue to its saltpas, where thousands of stepped pools receive salt water from a spring.

The advertised route comprises approximately 22 kilometers of driving, although the distance may vary by the state of the roads and the base used. The journey requires attention: there will be dust during the dry season and mud during the rainy months.

With Peceros Agency Travel, you will receive training, helmet, quad bike, fuel, transport and accompaniment of a bilingual guide. The program is offered in the morning and afternoon, so you can integrate it with other activities in Cusco.

Daily Schedule

Itinerary

DAY 1

Pick up from the hotel and departure from Cusco

Highlights: transfer from Cusco to the agricultural plateaus of Cruzpata.

The pick up will be from hotels located within the operational area of the center of Cusco.

For the morning shift, the process begins around 7:00 a.m. For the afternoon shift, the departure is scheduled at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Some streets in the historic center are narrow or have vehicle restrictions. When the unit cannot enter, a nearby point will be assigned.

After gathering the group, we will depart on the Cusco–Chinchero–Ollantaytambo route to Cruzpata.

During the trip you will observe how urban areas change through agricultural fields and large plateaus. On clear days you can see mountains of the Urubamba mountain range.

Perception of the passenger

During dry months, the powder can cover clothes and get on the face if you don’t wear glasses. In the rainy season, the road demands more care because the tires may lose grip.

Hands and forearms can get tired after several miles. Hold the handlebar firmly, but avoid keeping your shoulders fully stiff.

Walk by Moray

The visit is made by paths and enabled viewpoints. Some internal accesses may be closed for conservation.

It is not allowed to go down the platforms off the authorized roads.

The land presents:

  • Land paths.
  • Edges with slope.
  • Slipping sectors during the rain.

Perception of the passenger

From the viewpoint, the pools form white, ochre and brown layers that follow the slope of the mountain.

His appearance changes with the season. In dry months they can look clearer; during the rains, some pools have more water and different shades.
