Feel the flight of the condors on one of the great Andean landscapes of Arequipa

It is still early in the morning when we leave Arequipa and start climbing towards the Colca Valley. Outside it is cold, the city lights disappear and the road advances among pampas, mountains and high Andean populations.

The reward comes on the Cross of the Condor. From this viewpoint, located at 3,780 meters above sea level, you can contemplate the walls of the canyon while the condors take advantage of the drafts to rise almost without moving the wings. The sighting depends on nature; even so, arriving early increases the chances of observing them.

The route also includes agricultural platforms, valley villages, the Maca church, optional hot springs and a stop in Patapampa, the highest point of the route.

With Peceros Agency Travel, you will have tour, bilingual guide, breakfast and attendance throughout the day. It is a long day, but each section shows a different face of the Andes of the Peruvian south.

The highlight: night climb from Arequipa to the heights of Caylloma.

The road is paved, although it has continuous curves and ascents. The temperature inside and outside the vehicle can drop considerably, so it is advisable to take the coat by hand and not store it in the trunk.

Peceros Agency Travel operates tourist services and coordinates tours in southern Peru with official guides, transporters, and local providers.

The Colca Full Day requires precise operation. Departure occurs at dawn, condor watching depends on arriving early, and the return crosses areas close to 4,900 meters.

Coordination from Arequipa

Before departure we verify:

  • Hotel location.
  • Vehicle access.
  • Pickup time.
  • Guide language.
  • Number of passengers.
  • Breakfast.
  • Scheduled stops.
  • General road conditions.
  • Availability of hot springs.
  • End location.

Official guides

We work with accredited guides who know the route, viewpoints, towns, and precautions associated with altitude.

AUTOCOLCA recommends hiring vehicles with permits and official guides to ensure a safe visit within the valley.

The guide also helps identify condors and other birds without promising sightings that depend on nature.

Commitment to the Colca populations

The route crosses territories and populations of the Caylloma province, including Chivay, Yanque, Maca, Achoma, Pinchollo, and Cabanaconde.

Stops allow travelers to buy food, crafts, and services directly from local families.

We ask our passengers to:

  • Request permission before photographing people.
  • Do not enter agricultural fields.
  • Do not damage terraces.
  • Do not feed animals.
  • Do not offer sweets to children.
  • Pay respectfully for contracted services.
  • Keep the viewpoints clean.

Vehicles and safety

Vehicles are selected according to group size and must have authorization for tourist transport.

Before departure, basic aspects are checked such as:

  • Brakes.
  • Tires.
  • Lights.
  • Seat belts.
  • Documentation.
  • First aid kit.
  • Fire extinguisher.
  • General condition of the unit.

The road has curves, slopes, and high altitude sections. Therefore, the driver must know the route and respect rest breaks.

Meals

Breakfast is served at a local establishment in Chivay.

We can coordinate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free options when informed in advance.

Lunch is not included, but our team can book a restaurant. In private service, it is possible to request a more personalized menu, subject to availability and additional cost.
