Sail through the highest lake in the world and know two life forms linked to the water and the Andes

First you will feel the changing firmness of a platform made with totora layers. Hours later you will walk on stone trails, next to agricultural terraces and dwellings distributed on the slopes of Taquile.

This Tour Lake Titicaca Full Day departs from Puno, a city located at 3,827 meters above sea level, and gathers in a single day two very different spaces: the Floating Islands of the Uros and the Taquile Island.

The route is designed for those who have little time in Puno, but they want to understand how communities adapted their life to the lake, the climate of the highlands and a geography where almost everything involves walking slowly.

With Peceros Agency Travel, you will have coordinated pick-up, navigation, tickets, guide and lunch. You just need to wear proper clothing, sun protection and willingness to listen to families without turning their everyday life into a simple show.

The day will be long. There will be several hours inside the boat and a hike in height. In return, you will return to Puno with a much closer reading of the Titicaca.

Highlights

  • Walk on a floating island made with totora, a plant material that the families of the Uros use to build platforms, homes, boats and different objects of everyday use.
  • It understands how an artificial island is maintained, from the placement of root blocks called khili to the periodic renovation of the upper totora layers. The islands are anchored in the bay of Puno and are part of the environment of the Titicaca National Reserve.
  • Navigate Lake Titicaca, located approximately 3,810 meters above sea level, while you observe totorals, small boats and elevations of the highlands. SERNANP presents it as the highest navigable lake in the world. (Sernanp)
  • Observe the textile work done by men and women of different ages. Taquile’s textile art is part of the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. (Intangible Cultural Heritage)
  • Learn to interpret garments and colors, since certain hats, belts and textile pieces can communicate age, marital status or responsibilities within the community.
  • Walk between agricultural terraces, stone walls and plots worked at high altitude, with wide views towards the lake.

Selected Accommodation

Peceros Agency Travel organizes pick-up, transfer to the port, navigation, tickets, guide, lunch and return. This prevents the passenger from having to separately hire each component or negotiate services once the tour has started.

Respectful work with the Uros and Taquile

The route crosses territories managed by families and communal organizations of the Uros and Taquile. Our commitment includes: Coordinate the entrances and services established by the communities.

Experienced Guides

Our guides know the demands of the tour and know that a seemingly short hike can feel intense about 4,000 meters. During the journey they control the schedules, explain the context of each island and observe if any passenger has fatigue, dizziness or headache.

Safety and Support

We work with tourist boats that must have life jackets and basic safety elements. Before starting the navigation, the passenger must identify the location of his vest and follow the instructions of the crew.
