From the dunes of Huacachina to the Inca Trails of Cusco

In eight days you will go from a cold ocean full of marine fauna to a mountain located above 5,000 meters above sea level. Between both ends you will cross dunes in sandboxes, walk through ancient Inca centers and travel by train to Machu Picchu.

Imperial Adventure in Peru 8 days and 7 nights combines Lima, Paracas, the Ballestas Islands, Huacachina, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, the Humantay Lagoon and Vinicunca. The route is aimed at active travelers who want to know several landscapes of the country within a short and well coordinated program.

With Peceros Agency Travel, the transfers, excursions, guides, specified tickets, trains and meals indicated are organized within a single reservation. This prevents you from having to join flight schedules, pick-ups, trains and walks on your own.

The program gradually increases its demand. First you will stay close to sea level; then you will reach Cusco and tour the Sacred Valley before climbing towards Humantay and Vinicunca.

To be honest, the last two days require effort. Humantay reaches approximately 4,200 meters, while the Vinicunca viewpoint exceeds 5,000 meters. Acclimatization, rest and proper fitness will make a real difference.

Machu Picchu spaces are rapidly exhausted. Booking several months in advance allows access to better schedules, circuits and rail services.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival in Lima and transfer to the hotel

Highlight of the day: Start the trip with a coordinated reception and enough time to recover from the flight.

Reception at the airport

A representative of Peceros Agency Travel will wait for you in the arrivals area of Jorge Chavez International Airport.

After identifying the group, we will start the transfer to the booked hotel.

Lima has wide distances and variable traffic. Traveling to Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco may take longer than expected, especially during the morning and late afternoon.

Registration and free time

After you install, you will have the rest of the day off.

Depending on your arrival time, you can:

  • Walk around the hotel.
  • Change money.
  • Buying water or personal items.
  • Try a lunch or dinner at a nearby restaurant.
  • Prepare a small backpack for Paracas.

We do not recommend a long activity when the flight arrives in the afternoon or evening. Day 2 will begin before dawn.

Technical Details

  • Transportation: Private vehicle or tourist transfer.
  • Transfer duration: Variable according to traffic.
  • Altitude: Approximately 154 meters.
  • Difficulty:
  • Hike:
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Lima not included.
  • Recommendation: Sleep early and leave clothes ready for the next day.

Highlight of the day: Sail in front of marine fauna during the morning and tour the dunes of Huacachina in the afternoon.

Departure from Lima

The pick-up will take place during the early morning from hotels located in the included areas.

We will travel through the Panamericana Sur to Paracas. The land journey from Lima is approximately 259 kilometers and usually takes about three and a half hours, although it can vary by traffic, works or controls.

It is advisable to wear a windproof garment inside the backpack. The first few hours in Paracas can be fresh, even when the day will be warm in Ica.

Navigation to the Ballestas Islands

After the port registration we will board an open tourist boat.

The round-trip maritime route comprises approximately 21.4 kilometers and has a reference duration of one hour and forty minutes.

First we will observe the Candelabra from the sea. The vessel does not disembark in the geoglyph or the islands.

As we approach Ballestas we can observe rock formations and marine fauna. Depending on the season and the behavior of the animals, it is possible to see:

  • Marine wolves.

The presence of a particular species cannot be guaranteed.

Wind, waves, fog or a decision of the port authority may delay or cancel navigation.

Travel to Ica

After returning to the dock we will continue to Ica.

The landscape will gradually shift from the sea coast to desert extensions, agricultural areas and urban sectors.

Visit to a winery

We will make a stop at a handmade wine cellar or selected establishment.

Staff will explain basic aspects of the development of:

  • Pisco creams.
  • Other regional drinks.

The tasting is for adults only. People who do not drink alcohol will be able to apply for an alternative when available.

The quality, quantity and variety of samples will depend on the assigned wine cellar.

Lunch

You will have time for lunch before continuing to Huacachina.

The food is not included, unless it appears expressly in the confirmation.

We do not recommend drinking alcohol in excess before doing the activity in the dunes.

Huacachina

When you reach the oasis you will have time to walk around the lagoon and observe the large dunes that surround the urban sector.

Huacachina receives numerous travelers, especially on weekends and during holidays. For this reason, it should not be presented as an isolated stop or without visitors.

Sandy vehicles

We will get into a vehicle ready to ride on the dunes.

The tour includes:

  • Pronounced ascents.
  • Fast descents.
  • Panoramic stops.
  • Soft sand sectors.

Activity can generate sudden movements. All passengers must use the available belt and obey the driver’s instructions.

Sandboarding

In a selected area, tables will be delivered for descents.

Beginners usually go down lying on the board, a position that reduces the height of a possible fall.

Those who wish to practice standing must inform in advance and assume that this modality requires greater control and carries a higher risk.

Restrictions on the buggy

The activity is not recommended for people with:

  • Recent surgeries.
  • Serious back injuries.
  • Cervical pain.
  • Intense joint problems.
  • Medical conditions sensitive to sudden movements.

Return to Lima

After the activity we will start the return journey.

Arrival may occur overnight. We do not recommend scheduling a dinner with a rigid reservation or a flight after the tour.

Technical Details

  • Type of transport: Open tourist boat.
  • Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
  • Landing on the islands: Not allowed.
  • Difficulty:
  • Recommended equipment: Windbreak, secured cap and sunscreen.
  • Land distance: More than 600 kilometers accumulated, depending on the route operated.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Lima not included.

Highlight of the day: ArriVe in the Andes and begin the acclimatization between Inca walls and complexes located over Cusco.

Transfer to Lima airport

At the coordinated time we will make the transfer from the hotel to the airport.

Lima–Cusco flight is not included. We recommend buying a departure during the morning to keep a margin before the city tour.

The passenger should consider:

  • Traffic from Lima.
  • Schedule for closing boarding.
  • Luggage registration.
  • Security checks.
  • Possible door changes.

Arrival in Cusco

A representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the booked hotel.

Cusco is located more than 3,399 meters above sea level.

During the first few hours, they may appear:

  • Lack of appetite.
  • Light nausea.
  • Accelerated breathing.

We recommend drinking water, eating a light lunch and resting before departure.

Qorikancha

The city tour will begin with the visit to Qorikancha.

Within the complex there are Inca walls incorporated into colonial structures of the Convent of Santo Domingo.

The tour includes patios, corridors, stone floors and some unevenness.

Sacsayhuaman

Then we will ascend by vehicle to Sacsayhuaman.

The complex features large walls, esplanades, unevenness and dirt and stone paths.

The wind can feel intense during the afternoon. Wear a light jacket even if the center of Cusco is temperate.

Qenqo

We will continue to Qenqo, where the tour develops on stone formations and narrow passages.

The soil can be uneven and slippery when it rains.

Puka Pukara

The next stop will be Puka Pukara.

From its high sectors you can see roads, rural areas and nearby mountains.

Tambomachay

The last visit will be Tambomachay.

The tour includes a short walk to stone structures associated with canals and water circulation.

When it is at the end of the day, the temperature usually drops.

Technical Details

  • Flight: Lima–Cusco not included.
  • Transportation: Private transfers and tourist vehicle.
  • Walk: Between 3 and 5 kilometers.
  • Minimum altitude: Approximately 3,399 meters.
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate by altitude.
  • Land: Stone, earth, steps and cobbled streets.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Cusco not included.

Highlight of the day: Walk through terraces, villages and Inca enclosures next to the Vilcanota River.

Departure from Cusco

The pick-up will take place during the morning.

The route will continue to the Sacred Valley, located at a lower altitude than the city of Cusco in several of its sectors.

Pisac

The first visit will be Pisac.

Depending on the mode, the route may include:

  • Archaeological site.
  • Agricultural terraces.
  • Craft market.
  • Streets of the village.

The complex has slopes and stone steps. Travelers with reduced mobility will be able to take a partial tour.

Urubamba and buffet lunch

We will continue to Urubamba.

Lunch may include:

Drinks are usually paid separately.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or allergy-related requirements should be requested prior to travel.

Ollantaytambo

After lunch we will visit Ollantaytambo.

The main climb includes numerous stone steps. The guide will make breaks to explain the terraces, the walls and the relationship of the complex with the valley.

From the elevated areas you get a wide view of the current town.

Chinchero

At the end of the afternoon we will continue to Chinchero, whenever the weather, traffic and operating hours allow it.

The visit may include:

  • Textile center.
  • Demonstration of washing and dyeing of fibres.
  • Fabric techniques.
  • Sale of products.
  • Exterior view or entrance to the archaeological sector, according to the confirmed entry.

The textile demonstration is carried out by local families or associations. Buying products is voluntary.

Return to Cusco

The arrival will take place overnight.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 11 and 13 hours.
  • Transportation: Tourist vehicle.
  • Altitude: Between about 2,800 and 3,700 meters.
  • Difficulty:
  • Land: Stone, earth, steps and cobbled streets.
  • Buffet lunch:
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Cusco not included.

Highlight of the day: Travel by train to Machu Picchu and travel one of its official routes with a guide.

Transfer to the station

The departure will be made early from Cusco.

We will travel by tourist transport to Ollantaytambo or the station indicated in the confirmation.

The journey usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours.

Train to Machu Picchu Town

We will board a tourist service with assigned seat.

The base category may be:

  • equivalent service.

The train advances along the Vilcanota River and crosses a valley that becomes narrower as it approaches Machu Picchu Pueblo.

The baggage is subject to the conditions of the railway company. We recommend carrying a small backpack.

Bus Consettur

When we reach Machu Picchu Pueblo we will walk to the bus station.

The ascent takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes.

Entry to Machu Picchu

The passenger must present the same passport used to issue the ticket.

Machu Picchu operates with three general circuits that group ten routes:

  • Circuit 1:
  • Circuit 2: Classic Machupicchu.
  • Circuit 3: Machupicchu Royalty.

Among the official routes are:

  • Route 1- To Machupicchu Mountain.
  • Route 1-B Upper Terrace.
  • Route 1-C Intipunku Home, available in high season.
  • Route 1-D Inka Bridge, available in high season.
  • Route 2-A Designed route.

The exact route will depend on the availability available at the time of booking.

Guided tour

The tour usually lasts between two and three hours.

Depending on the ticket, they can be observed:

  • Agricultural terraces.
  • Urban sectors.
  • Stone enclosures.

Not all circuits include:

  • The same panoramic view.
  • Sacred Square.
  • Temple of the Sun.
  • House of the Inca.
  • Inca Bridge.

The guide will follow only the authorized tour of the ticket.

Time after the visit

Leaving Machu Picchu is not always allowed to re-enter.

We’ll be on the bus to the village. The time available before the train will depend on the schedule assigned.

Lunch is not included.

Return to Cusco

We will board the train to Ollantaytambo or the confirmed station.

From there, a tourist vehicle will make the transfer to Cusco.

Arrival may occur overnight.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 14 and 17 hours.
  • Transportation: Tourist vehicle, train and bus Consettur.
  • Walk: Between 2 and 5 kilometers.
  • Machu Picchu Altitude: Approximately 2,430 meters.
  • Difficulty:
  • Plot: Stone, stairs and narrow paths.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Cusco not included.

Highlight of the day: Ascend from Soraypampa to a lagoon located under the Humantay and Salkantay mountains.

Pick up in Cusco

The departure will begin in the early morning.

The transport will pick up passengers from hotels or established points.

Travel to Mollepata

The journey includes curved roads and rural sectors.

Movement-sensitive people should carry medication authorized by their doctor.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be served in Mollepata or a nearby sector.

The menu may include:

  • Hot drinks.
  • Local preparations.

We do not recommend overeating before walking.

Transfer to Soraypampa

Then we will continue to Soraypampa.

The last section may present:

  • Small water crossings.

Soraypampa is approximately 3,900 meters above sea level.

Hiking to the Lagoon

The climb usually takes between an hour and a half and two and a half hours.

The trail may include:

  • Stone loose.
  • Natural steps.
  • Sludge during the rains.
  • Pronounced earrings.
  • Sectors exposed to wind.

Although the distance is not extensive, the lack of oxygen increases the effort.

The horses can be hired from locals. They usually cover part of the ascent, but they don’t exactly reach all sectors of the viewpoint.

Humantay Lagoon

When you arrive you will have time to rest, take photographs and listen to the explanation of the guide.

The tonality of the water depends on:

  • Solar light.
  • Glacial conditions.
  • Rain or snow.

The water is not allowed into the water.

The weather can change in a few minutes. A clear morning can go into rain, hail or fog.

Descent

The return usually takes between an hour and an hour and a half.

During descent, respiratory effort decreases, but pressure on knees and ankles increases.

The canes are especially useful in this stretch.

Lunch

We’ll go back to the restaurant for lunch.

The service can be buffet or menu, depending on the operation.

Return to Cusco

The arrival will occur during the afternoon or early hours of the night.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 12 and 14 hours.

Breakfast

We will make a stop for breakfast and use the hygienic services.

It is advisable to consume a moderate serving and avoid foods that are too fatty.

Transfer to the start of the trek

We’ll continue on the road and trail.

The starting point may vary by:

  • State of the route.
  • communal organization.
  • Access restrictions.

Hike to Vinicunca

The trail develops on high andean puna.

You will be able to observe:

  • You’re calling.
  • Sectors of the Ausangate when the sky is clear.
  • Housing and land from local communities.

The climb usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours, although some passengers require more time.

Vinicunca is located more than 5,000 meters above sea level, so adequate preparation and acclimatization are fundamental.

Possible symptoms of height

  • Lack of air.

The guide may ask a passenger to stop or fall if symptoms pose a risk.

Lookout

From the authorized area the mineral strips of the mountain are observed.

The intensity of the colors depends on:

  • State of the land.

We do not guarantee that the mountain will look the same as it appears in photographs edited or taken during specific conditions.

The viewpoint can receive many travelers. This is a known trade route and cannot be presented as a crowd-free place.

Horses

Horses are managed by local providers.

Your rate may vary according to:

  • Starting point.
  • State of the road.

The horse does not eliminate the height or the final walk. The passenger must maintain balance and follow the instructions of the arriero.

Descent and lunch

After staying in the viewpoint we will start the return.

Lunch will be served at the restaurant.

  • Cusco airport.
  • Ground terminal.
