Costa, Andes and highland communities on a single route

Ten days are enough to see several faces of Peru, but only when the itinerary is well coordinated. This route begins in front of the Pacific, crosses the dunes of Ica, continues through the ancient Inca centers of Cusco and ends up sailing along Lake Titicaca.

The program brings together Lima, Paracas, Huacachina, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, the Humantay Lagoon, Vinicunca, the Uros, Amantaní and Taquile. Each destination brings a marked change of climate, landscape, food and altitude.

With Peceros Agency Travel, ground transfers, excursions, guides, specified tickets, trains and bus connections are coordinated as a single trip. This reduces one of the biggest problems of a multi-destination circuit: having separate bookings that don’t match each other.

The route has a progressive physical requirement. It starts near sea level, continues in Cusco and ends with hikes above 4,200 and 5,000 meters above sea level. To be honest, the days of Humantay and Vinicunca will be intense. The reward is in arriving prepared and moving forward without competing.

The income to Machu Picchu is limited. We recommend booking several months in advance, especially for dates between May and October.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival in Lima and City Afternoon Tour

Highlight of the day: Moving from the Pacific coast to the colonial core of the capital during the first afternoon of the trip.

Reception at the airport

A representative of Peceros Agency Travel will wait for you in the arrivals area of Jorge Chavez International Airport.

After checking the group, we will start the transfer to the hotel booked by the passenger. Travel time will depend on the district and traffic.

Lima can have intense congestion during much of the day. For this reason, the start time of the city tour will be linked to the actual arrival of the flight.

When the flight is late or suffers a considerable delay, the route may be reduced, reprogrammed or performed in a panoramic manner. We recommend landing during the morning to preserve the full program.

City Tour Lima

In the afternoon we will start the tour of the capital.

The route may include:

  • Plaza San Martin.
  • Plaza Mayor.
  • Government Palace, seen from the outside.
  • Cathedral of Lima, exterior view or entrance according to the program.
  • Archbishop’s Palace.
  • Convent of San Francisco and its catacombs.

The exact combination will depend on traffic, museum schedules and restrictions in the Historic Center.

In the catacombs there are stairs, low ceilings and closed passages. Passengers with claustrophobia or limited mobility must report it before entering.

Technical Details

  • Transportation: Private vehicle for transfer and tourist mobility during the tour.
  • Walking time: Between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours.
  • Altitude: Approximately 154 meters.
  • Difficulty:
  • Climate: Wet, temperate and with coastal breeze.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Lima not included.
  • Recommendation: Not schedule the city tour if the flight lands after noon without sufficient margin.

Highlight of the day: Sail by marine fauna in the morning and traverse desert dunes during the afternoon.

The departure will be before dawn.

Transfer from Lima to Paracas

The route is made by the South Pan American Highway. Depending on the contracted service, tourist bus, inter-provincial bus or private transport can be used.

The tour takes approximately three and a half hours and four hours.

Upon arrival in Paracas, we will go to the jetty to start sailing.

Ballestas Islands

The excursion is done on an open boat and usually lasts about two hours.

During the navigation you can see the Candelabro, a geoglyph drawn on a hillside of the peninsula. Afterwards, the boat continues to the Ballestas Islands.

These islands are part of the National System Reserve of Islands, Islets and Guaneras Points and conserve environments used by seabirds and sea lions.

Depending on the season and the behavior of the fauna, you can see:

  • Marine wolves.

Observation of a particular species is not guaranteed. Wind, waves or port closure may delay or cancel the departure.

Transfer to Huacachina

After the navigation we will continue to Ica and the oasis of Huacachina.

There will be time for lunch. The meal may be included or paid separately, depending on the confirmed modality.

Sandboxing and sandboarding vehicles

In the afternoon you can take the tour by sandbox.

The activity includes steep climbs and declines on the dunes. Recreational sandboarding is usually practiced lying on the board to reduce the risk.

Passengers with back, neck, pregnancy or recent surgeries should not participate without medical authorization.

Return to Lima

After the activity we will start the return journey. Arrival may occur overnight.

Lima–Cusco flight is not included. We recommend booking a morning departure to have enough margin before the city tour.

Arrival in Cusco

Upon landing, a representative will transfer you to the hotel booked on your own.

The difference in altitude between Lima and Cusco is important. During the first few hours, headache, tiredness or accelerated breathing may appear.

We recommend resting, drinking water and eating a light lunch.

City Tour Cusco

In the afternoon we will start the tour of:

  • Puka Pukara.

In Qorikancha there are Inca walls incorporated within the set of Santo Domingo. Afterwards, the vehicle ascends to the complexes located in the surroundings of the city.

Pisac

The first part of the day will be dedicated to Pisac.

Depending on the program, a visit will be made to the archaeological site, the market or both. Its platforms are distributed over the mountain and force to walk on slopes and steps.

The guide will explain the relationship between agriculture, storage and territorial control.

Lunch in Urubamba

We will continue to Urubamba for lunch in a tourist restaurant.

The buffet usually includes salads, soups, meats, Andean cereals, potatoes, pasta and desserts. Drinks are usually paid separately.

Ollantaytambo

In the afternoon we will visit the archaeological complex.

The main ascent is made by stone steps. In the upper part you can see terraces, walls and views of the current town.

Passengers with mobility difficulty may remain in the lower sectors.

Moray

Then we will continue to Moray, known for its circular terraces built in depressions of the land.

The tour is done by viewpoints and trails. Access to certain levels may remain restricted to protect structures.

Salineras de Maras

The last stop will be in the salt flats.

The pools receive salt water from a spring and are managed by families in the area. Travelers travel through viewpoints and authorized areas; walking freely among all pools is not allowed.

Return to Cusco

The arrival will take place overnight.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 12 and 14 hours.
  • Transportation: Tourist vehicle.
  • Altitude: Between about 2,800 and 3,700 meters.
  • Difficulty:

From Cusco we will travel to Ollantaytambo or the station indicated in the confirmation.

The journey usually takes between an hour and a half and two hours.

Train to Machu Picchu Village

The trip follows the valley of the Vilcanota River.

The regular ticket may correspond to an Expedition, Voyager or equivalent category service. The seats are allocated by the railway company.

Large suitcases should not be carried on the train. The passenger will travel with a small backpack within the limit established by the railway company.

Bus to Machu Picchu

From Machu Picchu Pueblo we will board the Consettur bus.

The road climb takes about 25 to 30 minutes.

Guided tour

The entry will be made with the original passport and the corresponding ticket.

Machu Picchu operates with differentiated circuits. In general terms, there are panoramic routes, routes through sectors of the Inca city and circuits associated with specific areas. The exact route depends on the ticket purchased and cannot be freely changed at the entrance.

The program will be confirmed with one of the available circuits. The most requested options can be exhausted several months in advance.

The guided tour usually lasts between two and three hours.

After leaving, it is not always possible to re-enter. Therefore, use the bathrooms before control and carry only the allowed objects.

Return to Cusco

We will descend by bus, board the train and continue by tourist transport to Cusco.

Arrival may occur overnight.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 14 and 17 hours.
  • Transportation: Consettur vehicle, train and bus.
  • Machu Picchu Altitude: Approximately 2,430 meters.
  • Difficulty:
  • Land: Stone, steps and narrow paths.
  • Food: Not included, except different quote.

Highlight of the day: Go up from Soraypampa to a lagoon of glacial origin under the Humantay and Salkantay mountains.

The pick up will take place before dawn.

Travel to Mollepata

We will leave Cusco by tourist transport and travel to Mollepata.

Breakfast will be served there.

Transfer to Soraypampa

Then we will continue by road to Soraypampa, located approximately 3,900 meters above sea level.

The last section can present soil, curves and bumps.

Walk to the Lagoon

The ascent begins in Soraypampa.

The distance is not extensive, but the slope and height increase the effort. The trail includes dirt, stone, natural steps and sectors of mud during the rains.

The climb usually takes between an hour and a half and two and a half hours. The time will depend on the physical condition and acclimatization.

The horses available in the area cover part of the journey, but do not necessarily reach the edge of the lagoon. Your contract is done directly and is subject to availability.

The official tourist promotion website of Peru presents the walk to Humantay as a high route with cold and marked changes in temperature.

Permanence and descent

After arriving, there will be time for photographs and explanations.

The appearance of water depends on light, clouds and glacial sediment. On fog days, the mountain can be partially covered.

The descent usually takes between an hour and an hour and a half. Canes help reduce pressure on the knees.

Lunch and Return

We will return to Mollepata or the restaurant assigned for lunch.

The arrival in Cusco will be during the afternoon or early evening.

Technical Details

  • Duration: Between 12 and 14 hours.
  • Transportation: Tourist vehicle.
  • Walking distance: Approximately 6 kilometers.

This will be the physically most demanding day of the circuit.

The pick-up will begin in the early morning.

Breakfast in Cusipata

We will travel south and make a stop for breakfast.

Then we will continue until the start of the walk.

Hike to Vinicunca

The ascent is carried out by an open puna route, surrounded by herds, mountains and sectors of the Ausangate massif.

The walk usually takes between one and a half hours and two hours per section, although the time varies depending on the access enabled.

Vinicunca is located around 5,036 meters above sea level.

Lack of oxygen can cause:

  • Lack of air.
  • Loss of coordination.

The guide will maintain a gradual pace. Horses are hired separately and do not always cover the entire route.

The visibility of the colors depends on the weather. Snow, rain and fog can partially or totally cover the mountain.

Descent and lunch

After staying at the viewpoint, we will return to transport and travel to the restaurant.

Lunch is included.

Return to Cusco and night connection

Upon return to Cusco, the passenger must collect the stored baggage and prepare for the transfer to the terminal.

The Cusco–Puno night bus ticket will be included.

The surface feels soft under the feet. The hike is short, but it is advisable to move forward carefully.

The traditional totora boat ride is usually optional and is paid directly to the inhabitants.

Navigation to Amantaní

Then we will continue to Amantani.

The journey can take about three hours on a conventional vessel. During navigation the wind usually feels cold, even in the sun.

Taquile’s textile work is produced and used by men and women of different ages. Among its representative pieces are the chullo and the belt-calendar.

Garments can communicate marital status, responsibilities and aspects of communal identity.

The main town is around 3,950 meters above sea level.

Lunch

Lunch will be served in a family or communal restaurant.

The usual menu may include soup, trout or a vegetarian alternative. Special diets should be communicated before starting the program.

Return to Puno

The return navigation takes approximately two and a half hours to three hours.

Night bus to Cusco

After the transfer you will leave time to collect luggage, dine and go to the terminal.
